SAY YOUR BIG NO TO MINING IN PALAWAN

I was not paid to make this article and published it. My conscience just told me that I have to render a little help from which everyone who sees it may persuade to follow what is right and this is right! If that happens, just imagine how a little help can make a difference.Well, we should be alarmed of what we always see and hear on television about the sudden deaths of mining workers in a landslide incident caused by a continuing rain and flash floods. The worst thing is, these mining operations are found to be illegal yet they were able to penetrate the area. And the local government was not able to identify that the mining project was illegal during its operation and too late to save the lives of the mining workers.

Palawan is known for its vast natural resources, wildlife composed in rarity, inviting spots and perfect views for everyone who wants to experience its amazing beauty, white beaches worth of second and many more visits.

Mining is pernicious to both human and nature. It destroys our mother earth, it poisons wildlife and it can take lives and properties. The tragedies brought by illegal mining should dread us enough to stand up and say "it's over". These are enough reasons why we should shout our BIG NO to Palawan mining. Sign up the online petition at no to mining in Palawan site (please click here) and be heard! Each one of us has the responsibility to take good care and conserve our nature. Spend a little time to sign up because your signature counts! We don't want to ruin God's gift. We want no more lives to be sacrificed and be wasted for the benefit of the few. Let us not wait for the time that all of these treasures will fade in complete obscurity until no more chance for the next generation to see it.

As of July 17, 2011, we now have 1, 400, 543 signatures! Still not halfway to our 10 million signatures target. If you care for nature, help save Palawan. Say no to mining in Palawan!

AIM HIGH KABATAAN WENT STRATEGIC PLANNING

To continue the started programs and advocacy for the youth, AIM High Kabataan (AHK) decided to conduct Strategic Planning for Young Leaders held at A-Montana Resort, Alabel, Sarangani Province last June 11-12, 2011. The said planning was attended and participated by AHK Presidents all over the 26 barangay in General Santos City and some selected Core Group. This 2-day strategic planning for AHK Young Leaders aims to formulate plans and strategies for the next 6 months this year.

During the AHK Strategic Planning, the participants went to a hectic schedule, minds were scrutinized, details were consolidated and possibilities were point out. It helps the organization to take full advantage of the opportunities and minimize the threats (if there are any) they might encounter along the process of implementation. Meanwhile, participants were able to form the mission and vision of AIM High Kabataan out of their understanding in line with AHK's principle and advocacy.

What is Strategic Plan? What is it all about? Strategic Planning is a ladder -like process with definite objectives that can be implemented and outputs that can be evaluated. So simple to grasp, it is like a roamap by which we look to the future, having a big picture in our mind, then breaking it into actionable steps while considering the things that can influence and affect us. Your plan depends on your own choice of time frame. It can be a monthly plan, an annual plan or a 2-5 years plan, etc.

Why is it necessary for an organization to set a Strategic plan whether Political, Non-political, Student, Professional  or Business organizations, etc. Does it make the organization alive and existing? The answer is actually "YES". Your organization will not last long if you do not set and talk your plans. If you have not made any plans for your organization this simply means that you put blindfolds to your own two eyes so you could barely see the directions as to where you want to go. Hence, goals are so vague. Therefore, members and officials got confused. Imagine your organization hardly breathing just like a fish taken away from the water.

It takes a collective effort, time and cooperation to make the planning a successful one. From the simple to difficult details, everyone contributed a helping idea to make the plans concrete. The AHK's Strategic Plan was indeed a success.

SANGGUNIANG KABATAAN OF KATANGAWAN CONDUCTED LEADERSHIP TRAINING

A 2-day Leadership seminar was conducted through the initiative of the Sangguniang Kabataan of Barangay Katangawan spearheaded by SK Chairman Perlyn Rose B. Barreza with the theme “New Beginning for Nation-Building”. The said 2-day live in training was held at St. Therese Garden, Purok 11, Barangay Katangawan, General Santos City last May 30-31, 2011.

It was attended by 25 Katipunan ng Kabataan participants who are SK Leaders of their respective Puroks. They had undergone lectures and activities from the topics prepared for them.  The Day-1 started with  Getting-to-know-you Activity to make them feel at ease and comfortable followed by Probing the Sangguniang Kabataan and Katipunan ng Kabataan, On Becoming Effective Leaders, Teambuilding and Socials- which made the night so fun and enjoyable. During Socials, there were Pageants, SK Katangawan Got Talent, Group Yells and Dramatics.

The Day-2 started by a morning Exercise to sweat them up. Then after taking their breakfast a religious worship was made by Pastor Kerwin Candole of Katangawan Baptist Church. Then back to discuss important topics like Conducting a Successful Meeting, Basics on Project Proposal Making and Annual Planning. This time the participants were able to cite some concerned issues on their barangay, aiming that there are solutions to it by creating programs suited to somehow solve the issue. That is the main reason why they taught some basics on Project Proposal.

Meanwhile, not to mention their very supportive Barangay Council who went to the venue altogether headed by Barangay Captain Remie R. Herceda. Barangay Captain Herceda expressed his gratitude to participants for joining the training and inspired them by encouraging them to be the next Public servants who would render genuine services to the people of Barangay Katangawan in the near future.

Indeed, Leadership Training is one way of letting the Youth get involved and see the real score from which they are the center of attraction.

Thumbs up for Hon. Perlyn Rose Barreza and the rest of SK Council of Katangawan . Great  job!
